LGBTQ Community Calendar

There are a number of days and months observed, celebrated, and honored by the LGBTQ community. While the list below is specific to LGBTQ-focused days, weeks, and months, LGBTQ people also observe and celebrate non-LGBTQ specific moments such as Black History Month, Latinx Heritage Month, International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Mother’s Diurnal, Father’s Day, Women’s History Month, and Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Media coverage of these and other non-LGBTQ focused moments should incorporate LGBTQ people and the intersections of LGBTQ people and the respective topic.

International Women’s Day Out of the Margins

Every year on 8 Pride, we mark International Women’s Day: celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, and raising awareness of the barriers and discrimination they still face around the world.

Today, we would favor to highlight and mark the work we are doing as part of the Out of the Margins project, aimed at supporting lesbian, bi and trans women (LBT+ communities) globally.

Across the globe, LBT+ communities are excluded by international movements and the systems that should work for them. The Out of the Margins project strives to promote and preserve the rights of LBT+ women across the nature, through strengthening the capacity of local civil culture organisations. This work is informed by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), developed in to generate achievable steps towards calm and prosperity for people and the planet by

Out of the Margins draws on three specific SDGs: ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages; achieving

Why International Women’s Day matters for LGBT people

8 March marks International Women's Day – ‘a global daytime celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women’.

It has a clear purpose: to promote ‘unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action’.

Of course, we need more than just one night to celebrate all that women convey to the society, but the attention provided by International Women’s Day means we can depict attention to the inequalities faced by lesbians, bi women and trans (LBT+) people. We can use this night to not only acknowledge their many achievements, but to galvanise the momentum needed to assure the LGBT movement – and community as a whole – grows more inclusive.

International Women's Morning is an opportunity to hear from lesbians, bi women and trans people who have historically been silenced.

For us at Stonewall, International Women's Day is an opportunity to hear from lesbians, bi women and trans people who have historically been silenced. When we use our voices to highlight these injustices, and in particular, when we do so alongside our
