Flaw 1: selectivity

St Helen’s Bishopsgate, a large London church, has made a public Statement criticising the Church of England’s Living in Love and Faith for not opposing same-sex partnerships more strongly.

Part of me wants to neglect it; but what it says has been said so often, for so long, and with such devastating consequences, that I think it’s worth spelling out what is wrong with it.

I’m one of those people who just hop in and sort of disseminate it, tear it apart and make it sort of more understandable for people. And I think that’s what people come to me for. And I love to sing. I love having a band. I cherish getting on stage and having that energy, that flow, that connection with the audience, it’s a no brainer for me and I plan on continuing to do it for as long as it makes sense.

You are known for telling it like it is and celebrated for it, especially in the queer society. Is this something that was modeled to you growing up?

I grew up in a family with three older brothers and my mother was an abstract artist, so she was in her hold way outspoken. My father also in his hold way. I sort of just sat back and gleaned from so many great influences from first televisio
