Next In Fashion Is It Worth It?
I don’t manage to watch reality TV or competition-based shows so when I found out that Netflix was hosting a series on Fashion, I was all ears.
As soon as I dove into Episode 1, I began to become familiar with the various characters that entered the competition. From start to complete, I found out more about the 18 hopeful designers.
Kiki Kitty
With a background in streetwear, Brooklyn native Kiki has helped shaped businesses at the forefront of the scene, designing garments for the likes of Beyonce & Jay-Z. She’s tired of being behind the scenes and wants her work to be in the spotlight.
Ashton Hirota
Recognizable for his avant-garde streetwear, Ashton combines punk & goth styles to create fashion with an edge. He has worked with Post Malone and created tour pieces for Beyonce and Usher.
Marco
A friend and colleague of 10 years to Ashton, creates pieces that are larger than life, with some collections inspired by the queer society to which he belongs. He’s worked with the Black Eyed Peas and Shivan & Narresh, as a luxury resort wear label, are going to complete a decade in the industry this month. The designer duo is best known to cater to millenials with the most eclectic yet quirky prints. In fact, with different signature prints under their wings, the label prides itself to hold dressed up the likes of Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, and Oprah Winfrey. Their latest collection 'Seoul Series' has been drawn from taking inspiration from the Korean peninsula and blending it with Indian motifs to create a never-before-seen fashion universe. Also, besides approachable collaborations with Koovs and Bent chair, Narresh participated in Next In Fashion, a challenge-based fashion life show. We caught up with Narresh to understand what it was like to participate in an international fashion reality tv demonstrate , their latest collection and how men have started consuming fashion differently over the last few years. Q. You were recently part of the show Next Just over a decade ago, designers Shivan Bhatiya, 37, and Narresh Kukreja, 35, were just two twenty-something fashion students at NIFT who distributed something of a love-hate relationship (they were renowned for their physical tussles) and aspired to begin a resort wear identity that would help satiate their love for move. Today, they are recognizable as the brains behind one of the most popular (and perhaps one of its kind) resort and swimwear brands in India. They have left a mark as the aesthetes behind the bikini sari. They own two stores in Delhi’s DLF Emporio and Kala Ghoda in Mumbai. And while they’ve now extended their ethos to home and living and started an events consultancy, that’s not the reason why they’re here. They’re here because of their glamourous lives on social media. Unlike senior, big designers with Bollywood connections and millions of followers, Shivan and Narresh have a couple of hundred thousand on their brand page, and a few tens of thousands on their personal profiles. ■ The big boys’ game
ITseems that practically none of the famous Mumbai folks are going to be in the city in the coming days to welcome the monsoon. Blame it on the India-Pakistan pair in Manchester this Sunday, but we hear half of Mumbai is going to be in the UK. Several folks are going for just two days (with that pricey UK visa fee, that truly is living it up), but we expect our roads to be snarl-free until post-match Monday at least. Gautam Singhania will be among the loudest cheerleaders. Jai Shroff and his entourage are expected to be there and so are Rajeev Samant and AD Singh. Many cricket-loving politicians, however, are forced to offer the match a miss thanks to Parliament being in session. What about Vijay Mallya who was at the India vs Australia match the other day? After the beleaguered businessman was heckled at the Oval, we advise he stay residence and watch it on the TV. Like your diarist.
