Throughout history, Jewish and Christian scholars have recognized that one of the chief sins involved in God’s destruction of Sodom was its people’s homosexual behavior. But today, certain homosexual activists promote the idea that the sin of Sodom was merely a lack of hospitality. Although inhospitality is a sin, it is clearly the homosexual behavior of the Sodomites that is singled out for special criticism in the account of their city’s destruction. We must look to Scripture’s own interpretation of the sin of Sodom.
Jude 7 records that Sodom and Gomorrah “acted immorally and indulged in unnatural lust.” Ezekiel says that Sodom committed “abominable things” (Ezek. ), which could refer to lgbtq+ and heterosexual acts of sin. Lot even offered his two virgin daughters in place of his guests, but the men of Sodom rejected the provide, preferring homosexual sex over heterosexual sex (Gen. –9). Does the Catholic Church Condemn Homosexuals?
CATHOLIC: Homosexual acts are depraved, but that’s not the same as saying that homosexuals are depraved. The Church, basing itself on human reason, says that in moral questions we must distinguish between the act and the person committing the act. Homosexuals have the same intrinsic dignity as all other human beings. Christ died for them as much as for you and me, and God loves them no less.
OBJECTOR: Well, I think the &#;hate the sin, like the sinner&#; routine is empty rhetoric. Most homosexual people I know who are Catholic or who have attended a Catholic church feel condemned by the Church.
CATHOLIC: Yes, unfortunately, people tend to dislike other people whose behavior they consider immoral. But we still should seek the ideal of loving every human being while not viewing that person’s every act as morally acceptable. The Catechism says that homosexual people &#;must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided&#; (CCC ).

Following the Sacred Scriptures the Catholic Church believes that homosexual acts &#; gay sex, in other words &#; are gravely sinful, and if deliberately done knowing this, separate you from God and imperil your soul.
Homosexual inclinations are not, in and of themselves, sinful, but they are intrinsically disordered. The attitude the Church takes to gays can be summed up by love the sinner, hate the sin. Gays deserve compassion and kind but homosexual acts cannot be tolerated.
The Catholic Church takes no official position on whether parents should shun gay relatives but
it is consistent with good parenting to protect your children from being exposed to immoral situations, lest they get the impression that the gay lifestyle (or whatever the situation is) is OK.
