“Grantchester” is a British ITV detective drama set in the s English Cambridgeshire village of the same label. The series, now in its sixth season, is part of PBS’s Masterpiece Mystery programming.
The focal point of the show is Anglican vicar William Davenport (Tom Brittney), who works with local Detective Inspector Geordie Keating (Robson Green) to solve cases in and around the village. The series is based on “The Grantchester Mysteries,” collections of short stories written by James Runcie and the series creator is executive producer and top writer Daisy Coulam.
Throughout its run, the show has addressed crime while delving into various social issues, including the nascent Black Civil Rights movement and now, in season six, the illegal status of same-sex attracted people.

Weaver's first paid theatre role was in Trevor Nunn's production of Hamlet, at the Old Vic theatre in London. Weaver played the Prince of Denmark on Monday evenings and at all matinees, whilst Ben Whishaw took on the role for evening performances, from Tuesday to Saturday.
British politician Michael Portillo lauded Weaver's interpretation of Hamlet in The New Statesman: "He [Weaver] gave meaning to the poetry, refusing to be rushed in the soliloquies or intimidated by them, varying volume and pace well. Frame by frame, he made credible Hamlet's progression from self-indulgence to nobility, so we could nearly believe Fortinbras' remark that 'he was likely, had he been put on,/To have proved most royally'."
Weaver has appeared in minor roles in films such as Colour Me Kubrick () (uncredited), The Merchant of Venice (), Marie Antoinette (), and Unmade Beds (); “Me and Orson Welles” ( film). he also played "The Kid" in Doom, "Schwob" in Colette, and an uncredited Gulf War soldier in Armistice ().

Grantchester star Al Weaver has revealed it was 'horrific' for him to film scenes where Leonard faced an angry mob on his way to court
Grantchester fans watched horrified this series as village curate Leonard Finch was jailed for being gay.
Al Weaver, who stars as Leonard, says that while some prejudices contain dwindled, the issue is still relevant.
“In a way a lot has changed but in some ways a lot hasn’t,” said Al,
“We see it in other places too, against dark people for one, with footballers still getting racially abused. We’ve got Black Lives Matter and taking the knee, and all these things resonate with people.
“We’ve still got this hatred and injustice in the world that a lot of us detect really appalling.
“You just think, why can’t people accept that everyone’s equal, that everyone deserves some love and the same opportunities as everyone else?”
But he adds: “We’re living in a day where we’ve got that love for equality.”
